At the present time in the Blessed Marianne Museum at the Court Street Motherhouse of the Sisters of Saint Francis in Syracuse, there are a number of rooms near the Shrine for relics, other significant items and materials related to her Cause. A main display room was dedicated in 1999 and presently the museum has been expanded to four exhibit rooms with an adjoining small office and a private archival room.
These colorful rooms are of great interest to visitors with their exceptional number of relics and primary documents. All four rooms have historical documents and pictorial representations.
Exhibit Room One: As one enters the door of the main display room, one's attention is drawn to a well lighted area with inbuilt wall exhibit cases with personal items all touched by Mother Marianne as well as bright photos on the walls of recent happenings such as her Beatification. One's attention is taken by a large mural on a side wall entitled "The Story of Mother Marianne" with photos illustrating her life from birth to death. In one wall cabinet, the original poetic tribute for the radiant ministry of the Franciscan nuns that Robert Louis Stevenson gave into her possession personally catches most visitors' admiration.
The Main Display Room |
Exhibit Room Two: The Hawaiian Islands Room. Mother Marianne's service in Hawaii is commemorated by a poster display of important events of her life in Hawaii and contributions; an exhibit case of Mother Marianne's religious articles; collages of photos taken at Molokai featuring those who served at the settlement during and after her time; Mother's medical scales. Several relics of Blessed Damien are in a wall cabinet including such treasures as a vestment, a cruet, a cane and his medical book.
The Main Display Room |
Exhibit Room Three: The Communications Room. Photo albums of past and present; a television where relevant videos can be viewed.
Exhibit Room Four: Community origins and Central New York room. A poster display with significant facts of Mother Marianne's early family life and life in religion; an exhibit table with a representative copy of early registers of St. Joseph Hospital, Syracuse, with entries made by Mother.
